My son Luke Bel turns 10 on March 18 and he’s a massive Savannah Bananas fan. We’re bringing him to the game Sunday at the Superdome to celebrate. Luke was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes about 18 months ago, but he refuses to let it define him. What’s incredible is that a month before his diagnosis he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and his faith has carried him through every finger stick, shot, pump change, and Dexcom change since. He never complains, never looks for pity, and refuses to see himself as limited. He’s one of the strongest and kindest kids I know. If there’s any chance at all, we’ll be sitting in Section 135 Row 26 on Sunday. Even a quick shout-out for Luke would make his birthday unforgettable.
