Road tax and gas tax are very high in the Netherlands, but yeah, the rest is urban planning and a strong will of the people.

Also the lowest income tax bracket there is 35%. And on anything above $80k you would pay 50%

We, as in the people who live in the suburbs, don't want what you described and illustrated. We have plenty of bike trails for leasure, but they help keep bikes off the road as much as possible. As for busses, the suburbs don't want interconnected community transportation.

I tried getting involved with my cities government (a suburb of Detroit) literally none of them want to do anything except what we’ve always done. We have many streets that are at the end of their lives and none of them want to rebuild them with protected bike lanes, they don’t want to try to get the county to let us change the speed limit and road diet our main stroad, won’t rezone for mixed use or light commercial in neighborhoods

Mr Vanity :
Ask the average pickup driver in the states if they want a walkable city that relies on public transportation such as the train and bus and a city that is designed for those systems first and cars second.

it's just gonna take money to redevelop highways and run buses and trains more often. This obv the best idea bc less car dependency, but no current politician wants to front a bill like that, esp rn. I hate American politics

We can’t do that because that would be so inconsiderate towards the shareholders.

minimum tax of ~45% though (~36% on income and another 9% VAT on all basics), not counting tax you pay indirectly.

America is still too big, holland is flat and easy to build on and still its very expensive to maintain. Cities in the us should have more urban planning inside and around the cities.
