@drjoshisleep: I’m a board-certified sleep physician. Here are truths I don’t always say on day one: 1. If you’ve tried every sleep tip but refuse to wake up at the same time daily, you’re weakening your own sleep drive. 2. If you need exhaustion to fall asleep, your nervous system isn’t relaxed— it’s running on stress. 3. If you’ve increased melatonin from 3 mg… to 5… to 10… and nothing changed, the dose isn’t the problem. You’re targeting the wrong mechanism. 4. If you wake up to urinate multiple times a night, that’s not “just aging.” Repeated airway collapse can trigger nighttime urination (especially in men). 5. If you sleep 8 hours and still feel unrefreshed, you don’t have a duration problem. You have a quality problem. 6. If your mind races at night, the issue isn’t the thoughts. It’s a brain that learned to stay alert in bed. 7. If your weekends look very different from your weekdays, your circadian rhythm is taking the hit. 8. If you’ve never been evaluated for sleep apnea because you don’t snore loudly, you’re overlooking one of the most underdiagnosed conditions in medicine. 9. If you dread bedtime, your brain has paired your bed with effort — not rest. 10. If you think you’re “just a bad sleeper,” that’s a learned pattern. Learned patterns can be reversed. If this hit home, save this so you can apply it later. Comment which number affects you — or someone you love. 👇🏽 Share this with someone who needs better sleep. Follow me for more tips that makes sleep help easy. Let’s spread the rest we all need.

My child (now 20s) has some kind of nightmare disorder. It started with night terrors as a toddler. Father and grandfather have something similar but not as severe. We have tried all the therapy/meds. Never done a sleep study because we’ve been told that’s not done for a nightmare disorder. Any suggestions?

How do I get better quality sleep? I’ve always required more sleep since I was a young kid and have always had a hard time waking up, even not hearing alarms. I can’t remember the last time I woke up, by getting woke up or on my own, and felt rested and good. I wake up tired and sore every single day, no matter how much sleep I get. I used to sleep 12-18 hours on my days off work. Now I get about 8-10 hours every day depending on the day. I’m 44 yrs old and sick of waking up sick and tired. I just want to wake up refreshed like a normal person 😭. Also, I always wake up really out of it, and I have to sit around, not doing anything, not talking, for 1 hr or more before I can shower and get ready and start my day. I can’t just hop up and go.
