multiple things can coexist! 1) Alex Consani has opened doors and spaces, 2) she has sometimes spoken up for black trans girls, 3) she still does NOT get a pass for appropriation and she absolutely has appropriated AAVE, which plays a big part in her popularity and platform. TLDR you’re totally right!!!! at the end of the day she is white and rich and we shouldn’t feel bad to criticize he behaviour just because she’s trans

Honestly, I don’t give white people who aren’t in the minority rewards or applause for doing the bare minimum. I wouldn't do it for those in the minority either. You can acknowledge achievements but also criticize or express disapproval of how someone does something. Anyone who is non-Black adopting AAVE or appropriating Black culture should be called out every time. What’s cute and cool for them when it's us is often seen as ratchet and over the top.

never liked alex consani especially because she’s from petaluma and uses aave like she grew up in oakland….i always would call it out but get told a “blaccent” isn’t real. doors were opened because the industry deemed her as palatable and people thought she was funny screaming at the camera and filming people who clearly don’t want to be filmed or screamed at. idk im just irritated that it takes so long for people to realize that she got popular doing something black women did first and started. ALSO - she never advocates for plus size models who are constantly over looked. never called out the fact that VS never hires more models of different sizes. and clearly does not acknowledge her privilege. but it’s all covered up with “YES MAWMAWS” and making faces. which by the way if I EVER acted the way she acted on set i would never get booked or put on hold for anything. probably dropped by my agency because of my “attitude”, but when she does it it’s “funny” and “cute”.

Non black creator who describes himself as a “swag boy” & who’s screen name is “hooch juice” critiquing people for appropriating black culture. Aha.

so fair though, sometimes i just gotta remember two things can be true at once, she has platformed herself with using aave and black culture and she’s opened doors in modeling for other trans women

This is a hard pill to swallow for some of you in the comments. Yes, Alex Consani definitely appropriates black culture, and that’s the whole reason why she became famous. Does it irritate me? Yes. Am I gonna write her off for it? No. She has used her platform to uplift and acknowledge her black trans sisters when it comes to a lot of issues, but that doesn’t mean she can use AAVE however she sees fit. We have to understand that CURRENTLY black culture is pop culture, so her adopting that is of no shock to me. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean we can’t hold her accountable for the usage of AAVE. We can like her all we want, but at some point someone has to tell her that it is weird af as a WHITE TRANS WOMAN to use AAVE as much as she does. And that’s that on that 🤏🏿

Deadass if I wanna watch a black trans girly there’s black trans girlies I can watch, not someone who simply sounds like them. I think for the folks arguing in the comments…when you enjoy her content do you enjoy similar content made by black trans creators? Do you even know those creators exist? Or is blackness only interesting and pushing the envelope when it’s delivered by someone white? I also don’t like the assumption that someone can clearly appropriate as long as they’re like…nice to us lmaoo
