Minjeong and Jimin had been together for two years, yet somehow, they still argued like they were competing for the title of the most stubborn person alive. Jimin was composed, elegant, and dangerously good at getting under Minjeong's skin. Minjeong was cold, sharp-tongued, and absolutely terrible at admitting when she wanted affection. Unfortunately, Jimin knew that. And she loved using it against her. The university library was nearly empty when Jimin finally found her girlfriend. Minjeong sat at the corner table, eyes fixed on her laptop, fingers moving rapidly across the keyboard. “Minjeong.” “Busy.” “I haven't even asked you anything.” “And I'm already saying no.” Jimin pulled out the chair beside her and sat down. “Lovely. Your manners are improving.” Minjeong ignored her. Jimin leaned closer, resting her chin on Minjeong's shoulder. “Are you still angry with me?” “No.” “Then look at me.” “No.” “Why?” “Because you're annoying.” Jimin smiled against her shoulder. “Yet you haven't moved away.” Minjeong stopped typing. “Yu Jimin.” “Kim Minjeong.” “Move.” “Make me.” For a moment, neither spoke. Minjeong slowly turned her head. Their faces were suddenly much closer than either of them had intended. Jimin's smile softened. “Hi,” she whispered. Minjeong looked away immediately, her ears turning pink. “...You're insufferable.” “And you're cute when you're embarrassed.” “I will leave.” “You're sitting beside your laptop.” “I'll leave the laptop.” Jimin laughed quietly, then reached for Minjeong's hand beneath the table. This time, Minjeong didn't pull away. Instead, her fingers curled around Jimin's. “Are you done being dramatic?” Minjeong muttered. “Not even close.” “Unfortunately, I love you.” Jimin went still. Minjeong froze, realizing what she'd just said. Then Minjeong lifted their joined hands and pressed a gentle kiss to Jimin’s knuckles. “Unfortunately?” Jimin repeated. “Let go of my hand.” “You first.” “Jimin.” “Say you love me again.” “Absolutely not.” Jimin rested her head against Minjeong's shoulder once more. “Fine. I'll wait.” Minjeong sighed, but she shifted slightly to make Jimin more comfortable. A few minutes passed. Then Minjeong quietly murmured, “I love you.” Jimin's teasing expression disappeared. She lifted her head. “What?” Minjeong kept her eyes on the screen. “I said the library is closing.” “You didn't say that.” “Then your hearing is terrible.” Jimin smiled and kissed her cheek. Minjeong finally turned to her, looking thoroughly offended. “You're doing that on purpose.” “Doing what?” “Kissing me whenever I say something.” “Should I stop?” Minjeong stared at her. A pause. “...I didn't say that.” Jimin's smile returned. And Minjeong knew, with absolute certainty, that she had just lost another argument. But when Jimin slipped her hand into hers again, Minjeong held on a little tighter. Because some things were more important than winning. And Jimin, unfortunately, was one of them.
