I will never understand the US tipping culture, it just sounds wrong. A tip should be a bonus, not your salary and not something you should be penalised for if a customer chooses not to tip.

as someone who lives in a country where EVERYBODY gets AT LEAST minimum wage and there is zero tipping culture (unless you absolutely feel like it some cafes have a tip jar) I will never understand why the CUSTOMER is responsible for making sure the EMPLOYEES can afford to pick both rent AND food…

US tipping culture is insane. No one tips here other than perhaps puts a few spare coins in a jar at the register staff usually use for a Christmas party. The staff actually get a proper wage from the employer.

That is wild! Even if I’m out to dinner and somebody else is paying, I’m always peeking over to make sure they tipped appropriately. And if they didn’t slipping a little extra on the table for the waitress. Crazy no one at the table would at least offered to cover the tip.

I'm a brit so I have no idea how this works. Could you please explain how you have you pay someone else? Like I understand you're not paid a minimum wage and you expect the customer to tip to increase your wage to meet minimum, but who are you paying? I don't get it? Is it like you're talking about using money from tips to pay your bills and stuff?
