Because how am I supposed to explain that I’m grieving somebody I barely even had? 😭 There wasn’t a five-year relationship. There aren’t hundreds of pictures together, shared apartments, anniversaries, or some huge history that makes the heartbreak obvious to everybody else. It was just this ridiculously short period of time where somebody appeared out of nowhere and somehow felt different. The conversations immediately went deeper than they were supposed to. The chemistry was stupid. You stayed up talking until hours became minutes. You started noticing little similarities that made you think, “Where have you BEEN?” And because everything felt so natural, your brain did what brains unfortunately love doing and quietly started imagining where this could go. Then suddenly… nothing. Wrong timing. Distance. Someone wasn’t ready. Life changed. Feelings got complicated. Whatever happened, the connection ended almost as quickly as it appeared, and now you’re standing there like, “Excuse me?? Why did you introduce me to this person if they were apparently a limited-time event?” 😭 And that’s what makes brief connections uniquely painful: sometimes you’re grieving possibility more than history. With a long relationship, at least you know what it actually was—the beautiful parts and the difficult ones. But with something that ended before reality had enough time to test it, your mind gets to preserve the connection at its most exciting stage. You never found out whether you’d annoy each other after six months, whether your values actually aligned, or whether that insane chemistry could survive ordinary life. So don’t automatically turn a short connection into proof that you lost your soulmate. Sometimes something feels extraordinary partly because it ended before it had the chance to become ordinary. But that doesn’t mean it meant nothing either. Some people really do walk into your life for five minutes and somehow leave fingerprints everywhere. Maybe they weren’t supposed to stay forever. Maybe they were simply there long enough to remind you that you’re still capable of feeling something that deeply. Still… universe, next time please provide a warning label because what exactly was THAT?? 😭
