Claude is great, Claude code and Claude desktop. However, when you use their harness you are restricted to their models. There’s no other option if you use Claude desktop you’re simply stuck with fable, opus, sonnet, and haiku. With cloud code you have options. With VS code you arguably have more options. Use local models for highly sensitive work that needs to stay on your machine, use cheaper models via Ollama inside cloud code itself or through the agent chat window in VS code. You have so many options and you can switch between them really easily.
