actually tried one of these to close a gap. it did virtually nothing but bend the hinge. rha gap stayed exactly the same

It doesn’t work. A tiny edit shows why. The tool isn’t slid on the hinge. Understand the gap between the two metal plates of the hinge in the video is about 1/2 inch. Then the thickness of the two plates are added. Making the tool need about 3/4 inch gap to slide on the hinges with spacing. The tool opening isn’t that large, of course, because it wouldn’t work. The tool gap is too small to slide over a gapped hinge but it’s made to repair gapped hinges.

Doesn’t work if you have casing (molding) around the door. Notice demo has no molding.
