This felt like a lot of word soup to say what exactly? I think I’m dumb…what exactly do you mean if you wouldn’t mind?

I love to travel, but have come to learn I can’t live life trip by trip. Most of life occurs at home and you have to learn to be happy there too.

The irony is that “enlightenment” often comes from doing the opposite of what your comfort zone is. So if someone is possessed by wanderlust, it would benefit them greatly from staying put for a while. It’s those who don’t like traveling that might benefit from taking a journey or two. At least it’s been this way for me and many of the people I know

I am actively putting down roots in my hometown and growing the most beautiful community of family and friends. On the contrary, I also LOVE to travel and visit some place new and go on adventures! It’s not escapism, it’s expansion. It’s making your world bigger and more beautiful. You can settle down and still enjoy the rest of what the world has to offer

Yes and no. Travel is generally a good thing as it is humbling. It helps you realize how small you are and that at times, you need to lean on people. “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”- Mark Twain

by that definition watching TV going to the movies and scrolling TikTok after 30 years old is also commercialized escapism no? and I think is still significantly more intrinsic value in commercialized escapism in real life. Compared compared to commercialized escapism on a screen.

If anything I think putting down roots and building and nurturing community and relationships with all different types of people in your community is a better way to become enlightened

I’ve only started traveling in my late 20s and early 30s. Is it a form of escapism? Yes It lets me cope in my own way. The only time I truly feel free.

the point you made at the beginning of the video seems to be different than towards the end. Escapism from a stressful life/job is literally the whole point of vacation. a break from reality. and if people can afford to go on international trips then they should.

100%. Like, I worked hard to make my home life feel like a vacation when I’m not working. When I travel, it’s because I want to see a specific historical, cultural, or natural site or attend a special event like a wedding. I don’t need to be in a different society just to enjoy life. I can become plenty enlightened by reading books and talking to people. No one has the time to visit every place in the world. I can learn plenty about a place by reading its full Wikipedia page lol.

I can vouch for this. Travel is amazing but it became about avoidance. It took me settling and creating a home base for a couple years to fully understand that! Now I think I am better prepared to enjoy travel for the experience it can be!

I think what I actually like about travel at this point is not necessarily cultural experience, but just being outside and walking and relaxing and meeting new people all of which we could do wherever we live if not for jobs & cars

Shes not wrong. And you actually grow more from getting involved in your local community than traveling somewhere for a two week vacation. I love to travel and always will, but I have also caught myself using it as an escapism from life. Yes TV, reading, scrolling, etc are also escapism, but its a lot harder to escape yourself sitting in your home, even with a book or TV. Youre still forced to interact with all your triggers at home. Vacation is so different that your triggers typically dont happen as often or at all since its so new & different. Thats just my experience though.

People will argue with you but I worked a 21/21 schedule and would travel every time I was off and only after 3 years of that and consistent therapy did I realize I actually was “running away” (even though I do enjoy traveling)
