@americantravelarchives: I can’t believe people skip this place… Follow for more hidden gems and bucket list adventures across the U.S. 📍Kuwohi (formerly Clingmans Dome) – Great Smoky Mountains National Park At 6,643 feet, Kuwohi is the highest peak in the Smokies — and catching sunrise here feels like floating above the clouds. You’ll hike a short (but steep) paved trail to the observation tower, where you’ll watch the light roll across a sea of mist-covered mountains that seem to stretch forever. On a clear day, you can see up to 100 miles in every direction — including seven different states. 🌄 Why it’s worth waking up early: • Fewer crowds at dawn • Soft golden light over layers of blue ridges • Absolute quiet, except for the wind and birds 💡 Know before you go: • Parking fills fast — arrive 30 mins before sunrise (on the day we went it was very empty tho) • Bring a jacket (even in summer, it’s chilly up there!) • Kuwohi means “the mulberry place” in Cherokee, honoring the original stewards of this land ✨ Pro Tip: Combine your visit with hikes to Andrews Bald or the Appalachian Trail section nearby. Tag someone you’d wake up at 4AM for or drop your favorite sunrise spot in the comments!
