5 things that are worth the money - kitchen edition You absolutely don’t need to spend a fortune on every piece of kitchen equipment, but these are the five things I think are worth investing in. 1. A good chef’s knife A sharp, well-balanced knife makes cooking quicker, easier and much safer. You also only need one excellent all-purpose knife rather than an enormous knife block filled with ones you never use. 2. A large, heavy-duty chopping board There is nothing more annoying or dangerous than a chopping board sliding around while you’re using it. A large surface gives you plenty of room to prep properly, and a thick wooden board will last for years while being much kinder to your knives. 3. A good high-speed blender This is one appliance where you can really notice the difference. A powerful blender gives you properly smooth soups, sauces, dressings, nut butters and purées without constantly having to stop and scrape everything down. I’d look for one with at least 1,000 watts. 4. One really good heavy-based pan A heavy base distributes heat more evenly, meaning your food is less likely to catch or cook unevenly. You can use it for everything from searing meat to curries, pasta sauces and one-pot dishes. You don’t need an expensive full set, just one or two excellent pans in the sizes you actually use. 5. Good-quality baking trays Cheap trays tend to warp, buckle and cook food unevenly. A solid, heavy tray holds its shape and gives you much better caramelisation when roasting vegetables or meat. What’s one piece of kitchen equipment you think is worth spending more money on? #fyp #privatechef
