I once bought a “used banana” (empty banana peel) for five dollars off of the merch table of one of my favorite bands, Dog Fashion Disco. This was probably back in 2012 or 2013. We dried the peel out and framed it along with the Post-it note that said “used banana”. It’s still one of my favorite pieces of merch I’ve ever gotten at a show. I wonder if they know they were doing modern art at the time.

when people remake the banana by crocheting, drawing, painting etc., I think the message comes out even stronger. like these artists that are not famous use their talents to make the banana, with a lot more effort than just buying it, but they're not making 120k for it

I love Mauricio Cattelan. His work is so funny. And he’s genuinely an amazing artist. Case in point, go look at photos of his 2012 Guggenheim retrospective. It’s one of the most interesting, creative approaches at a retrospective I’ve ever seen.

i love the banana with passion🤭 i saw it for real on the museum and i was laughing so hard lmaooo ajsjsjsjsj then i had dinner with my family and we spent three hours talking about what is art ajsjsj they were so mad, they hated it and i was playing devils advocate lmao it was so fun. it's art for sure!!!
