Intent here matters less than impact. At best, it was an incredibly thoughtless comment… at worst, an intentional dig. Either way, the impact is the same - it made you feel bad. To me, that would be enough to tread incredibly lightly and probably not continue the friendship aside from “nice to see you!” when you bump into each other at the grocery store.

I don’t know if this will be helpful, but here’s what I’ve learned about this kind of situation. We humans intentionally and unintentionally hurt each other. We usually can’t know another person‘s intention for sure. So for me, the litmus test is how they respond to my being honest with them. Not in an accusatory way. Simply “hey, this interaction really hurt my feelings”. It’s how the other person responds that matters to me. If they are dismissive, minimize my feelings, or make me feel worse in any way for being honest, I no longer care to have them in my life in a significant way.

I don’t understand “friends” who are chummy with comments or actions with other people’s spouses. You can be friends with other people’s spouses and not make comments like that.

that wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest because it's a fact people aren't who they were in their teens so it's often a good thing you meet people at certain stages of your life. 🤷♀️

I think you should follow your gut. Whether or not she realizes that it was an inappropriate thing to say, it still gives that same energy from high school. I’d say leave her where she is and continue on with your day girl!
