It is so hard to break free from that trauma bond. In 1999 I went in as a happy, loving, joyful person who was secure in myself. In 2004 I managed to escape with my kids as a broken person with no self esteem, terrified of the world, convinced I was nuts. It took a very long time to find myself again.

Very good information, yes the first step is recognising what you're dealing with and not to keep rationalising it away. Then one needs to stay strong (notwithstanding the harm already done) develop and apply tactics to protect yourself. Workplaces are also problematic given the power imbalance of employer/manager and employee, and the harm already done to your reputation with upper management before you even realise as they manage upwards very well.
