@iamzayade: All the advice I found for investment was American or British, none for Ireland. So here’s what I wish someone had told me at 18. Number one. Your pension. Before you touch anything else. In Ireland if your employer matches your contributions that is literally free money sitting there waiting for you. I ignored this for one year. Don’t. Number two. A globally diversified ETF on Trading 212 or Trade Republic (not financial advice - check comments for common ones ). You can start with €50 a month. It invests in over 3,700 companies at once so you’re not betting on one thing going right. There are other ETFs to consider. Number three. A high yield savings account for your emergency fund. Raisin.ie or Trade Republic. Your money sitting in a current account is losing value every single year to inflation. Move it. That’s it. Three things. None of them complicated. Happy Investing 💕 #irishinvesting #ireland #PersonalFinance
the pension one genuinely changed my life. my employer was matching 5% and i didn’t even know 😭 that’s free money i was just leaving every single month

Lee-Ann Brewer :
the only problem with investing in Ireland is the 8year deemed disposal rule. so you're losing compound growth every 8years

Most people don’t realise this 😳 In Ireland ETFs are taxed at 38% AND you get taxed every 8 years even if you don’t sell (deemed disposal). No tax-free allowance either… stocks are actually more tax efficient here

If I start investing what’s the story with tax and revenue or does that only become relevant if I want to take the money out?

Not financial advice. just sharing examples for education.
Some low-cost globally diversified ETFs people often look at include:
• Amundi All-Country ETF - WEBN (~0.07% fee)
• Vanguard FTSE All-World ETF - VWCE (~0.20% fee)
Always do your own research and compare fees, structure, and availability on your platform.
