Very interesting! Same with Portuguese & Spanish there are so many words that came from arabic like e.g. azeitona, açúcar, arroz, algodão, almofada, azeite, etc..

X is also coming from Arabic and due to the transformation of the book of alkhawarzmi. as there was no mathematics language , the book is in plain Arabic. so instead of X he wrote something (in Arabic 2 letters shy the sh sound and the y) but sometimes instead of writing the two letter he wrote only the first one sh. and at this time the sh in castillan Spanish was as catalan X. so when the translator translated the book the X was created 😁

Recently realized that arroz in spanish is just the arabic word "الرز", the same with olive🥲 I find it kinda funny because "el arroz" basically means "the the rice"
