@soullesscreaturesoflight: since so many people asked in my last post hopefully this is helpful 🫶🏼 #supportworker #autisticadult #autismawareness #disabilitysupport #melbourneaustralia
As a support worker I love seeing people happy with their care 🤍 there is often so much negative talk around the ndis so I’m glad to see some positivity 🫶🏼 also, I hope you get the extra hours you’re after!🤞🏼

my mum and I are too terrified to update my NDIS plan to an adult one instead of a child’s one because they’ll probably just take it away from me, even though i’m diagnosed as level 2/MSN, it’s better to have the child’s provision for talk therapy than potentially be able to get a support worker but potentially lose my plan all together

hell yeah I hope you get more hours. I'm lvl 1 autistic so I don't qualify but support when I'm not coping so well would be baller :) cool to hear there is an option to pay out of pocket though

I have 6 hours of support a week. The fact you only have 2 is crazy! I hope you can get more 🤞

2 hours is nothing?! Can you get a review or are you happy with that? I manage to get 16-20hrs a week with lvl 2 on mable but I have a pretty good plan. Do you have therapy funding too?

not a fan of mable tbh they have a clunky inaccessble interface & take a big % frm workers, also u pay them b4 they pay ur workers & it’s rly delayed

Gosh 2 hours isn’t much! I hope you can get that increased. So much goes in transport anyway so you wouldn’t even get that. I’m still at a place where using the support creates more distress (and fatigue with me/cfs) but it’s a work in progress for me.

do you find having support workers a certain age better? im already not sure if closer to my age is better or someone quite a bit older

this is amazing! i never heard such service here in my country. might look into it because i personally dont enjoy much from hanging out with friends but having a support worker sounds different. i assume you dont feel the need to please them or mask around them, right?

Is ot ever awkward? I have all the same diagnostics and age (pretty freshly diagnosed) and everyone thinks I function exceptionally well but I feel like I'd feel bad if someone was doing the tasks I couldn't do even if thats literally their job and I struggle with them 🥲

thanks for saying Mabel is available to those outside of NDIS too.. I think it would be helpful for me but I can’t get approved for NDIS without more ax.. so expensive

do you rely on the same worker every time or have a couple, or new every time?

As a support worker who is also AUDHD it makes me so happy to hear that your SW has helped you feel confident in the areas you have needed most! This is my goal with all the people I support 🥹🥰

I know having a support worker could be really helpful for me but I really struggle with meeting new people! Right now I have friends and family that dedicate time to helping me but I feel bad for it [weep]

Was it hard for you to qualify for NDIS? I have the same conditions but have always been told I wouldn’t qualify for help 😞

I’m switching to using Mable soon! My OT recommended it and the company I’m with atm is good but not the best fit. Navigating support workers and what they can help you with can be so hard, especially when you feel like you should be able to do these things on your own. But they’re also amazing and supportive as hell
