Green apples were probably called blue apples in ancient times when green and blue didnt have seperate names and were considered the same (somehow). It has stuck even now. This is just a guess but I know for a fact that lot of colors got more defining, induvidual names very gradually and relatively late.

If you don't understand why she said blue at the end. In Japan, they used to not have a word to describe certain colors like green. They would instead describe things like apples as "ao,' aka blue since there was no word for green at the time. It stuck for items like that despite having a word for green now.

It's a "blue" apple, but the colour is midori. Same as the "ao" light on a traffic light that is midori.
