in defence of the show for people wondering why they couldn't make it look more like the books, i think there's a BtS somewhere where they talk about the actual filming constraints around a throne of that size. like if they made the throne much larger than it is in HotD, it becomes physically difficult to keep the king in the same shot as any other characters (let alone the entire throne itself) without exposing lighting/sound elements or completely losing focus. it works really well for a fantasy world, but it simply couldn't be grounded enough for television.

what always gets me abt Robert doing home renovations in the red keep once he won and was crowned removing all the targaryen heraldry and downsizing the throne, house baratheon is a branch of house targaryen his own grandmother was a targ too, i always wondered if he knew that abt the throne and partly why he downsized it so much

I want the difference between the two thrones to mean that the original ends up getting destroyed somehow during the dance of dragons meaning that the one in game of thrones is fake that they made to keep up the legend and just collectively decided to memory hole that, because that fits so well with the themes of the story

They did make a point in the GoT series a couple of times to talk about how massive it was and I hope I don't get the king wrong but I could have swore in the show that Robert Baratheon got rid of everything aside from the throne. He wanted no Targaryen iconography anywhere. He moved everything into the catacombs

also, the "1000 swords" is clearly an under counted number. the swords were of the vanquished from the field of fire. the Reach and the west fielded 100k men. so its gotta be at least 10-20k swords that make up the throne
