I work for a company that is a pet related service and we get 3 days of “pet parental leave” if we adopt a pet, and we get bereavement if we lose a pet too. Pet insurance is also part of our benefits (along with human insurance lol)

Imagine the outrage if someone said, “it’s just a baby/kid, you can have another one.” So WHY does anyone think it’s okay to say it’s just a pet 😭 pets are family too

I lost my elderly dog 2 mos ago. I took off an entire week to grieve. My supervisor was so supportive and didn’t mind at all bc she’s also a dog lover

The company I work for is very compassionate and doesn’t blink twice if someone takes a PTO day to grieve a pet. Very thankful for that.

Facts. Me and my husband had pittie named Snow. We only had her for three days but I loved her so much. She obviously wasn’t a good fit for our home despite me loving her so much. I cried for days afterwards. That’s how much I was attached to her

We unexpectedly lost my best friend of 12.5 years in January. I texted my bosses right before it happened and told them I’d be taking PTO for the week because I knew I’d be a mess. Every one of them was so incredibly supportive. My team dropped off flowers and sent texts of support, both of my bosses made sure to check on me and next meeting I had with them both they spent the first 15 minutes making sure I was okay and knew I could reach out if I needed anything. Genuinely have never had a job where I felt supported like that.

does this apply to a pet that is your mom’s? i grew up with said pet for the second half of my childhood. i then moved out of my parents, i still saw him frequently & cared for him so much. but because i wasn’t there everyday after i moved out, i feel like the grief that i feel isn’t as valid?

I let my employees take a day or two if they lose their pet… and I take time too. 💕💕 I’m not going to pretend I’m ok and I don’t expect people to pretend they are ok.

My heart broke when I lost my cat a few years ago. It’s a very hard thing, that’s literally your best friend 💕
