I think the current one will be the last generation of junior SWE. We need to train a new generation of architects who focus on analysis, more than building, because there's no time for them to learn how to build. On the contrary, they need to learn quickly the ability to understand how good architecture and good code looks like. The entire concept of building has changed forever, so if that's even possible, we need to find ways to "teach experience". The new generation will be very different and less capable to write code, but they'll be forced to have much better analytical skills.

The Adequate One :
Another, more obscure perspective: I have worked as a Technical Artist in Game Development for decades. I am not from a CS background, I am a rogue, self taught coder. C# in Unity is my ceiling. However, my experience in systems and tool design, pipeline development, pre-emptive problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging is allowing me to architect and vibe code things I could never build on my own. My experience in dealing with both the big picture and the minutia of software development, and my focus understanding and communicating complex technical concepts has translated incredibly well to vibe coding in Claude. I spent at least a week just having conversations with Claude (I dislike prompting), working from first principles, and designed nearly everything before having it write a single line of code. The coding itself felt like the easy part. I haven't even looked at the source. The project I am working on includes a code review feature. I am leveraging Claude's technical knowledge to guide it to build the code that will validate its own code. 😄

software engineering is becoming the cobol programmers of today. namely in 20 years there won't be software engineers just folks who work on parts that are so legacy that even machines can't fix. the industry is over.

Well said! Focusing solely on architecture does not work. You still need a technical background to review the PRs or whole projects. The situation is quite turbulent now.

you have to have wits about yourself when it comes to ai because it lies and makes you think shit did i actually tell it to do this or that. im not a coder but I am neuro divergent so for some unknown reason I find sometimes im actually telling an superior intelligence that its wrong and it makes me see how gullible we all are but if your genuinely experienced in coding you can control the slop and make it work but its not real for a none tech to build apps with ai and not understand how dangerous you are with clients details and its so wrong for companies to make out you can build anything beyond a static site im very capable in tech and even i can see im not smart enough to find the slop by myself but im stubborn enough to believe i can do it but if im honest its a genuinely god level intelligence and it should be treated as such ethical ai doesn't exist its up to us to make people understand it makes a person believe its achieved something when infact its a baby with superior thinking but its not capable of understanding people lie and people pretend to be doing the right thing when in fact they are out to cause chaos. I think you content is very good I can hear the experience in your words so is there any chance you can make one about people actually understand what they have access to and the danger or the consequences of not knowing what you're doing and blindly trusting ai to have the best intentions of people because I myself have ran test to see how quickly I can confuse Claude and get its trust that im not interested in dark patterns and just how quickly I can make it believe it can trust me. your good enough to get the message across to normal people and if I wasn't genuinely a good man I can ruin people with this tech. its scary and im actually worried about our future 😕

I said this from beginning as AI use started. Problem is also corporate leadership who will see that more experienced generally older will have more value and typical intern or junior tasks jobs which AI can do instantly will result in a hiring gap. we see this already with average ages in hiring in industry and college hiring gaps.

What’s fascinating is that there’s a lot of vibing people who are “building” but not producing. That’s where most of the viral posts are coming from. Most engineers are pretty quiet and using agents as a tool.
