We don't know what Vance and his friends said to him that got his attention. it does appear that Mr Miller struck him once in the upper chest with an open hand. Mr vance than began pulling out a gun and Mr Miller tried to stop him. when Mr Miller saw he could not, he tried to run and was shot.

Stand your ground, Absolutely nobody has a right to lay a hand on another person. And if they do that person has a right to defend himself. Make note the person didn’t start to run away until tyker pulled the gun. If he hadn’t done that and started shooting the large man would have kept beating him.
