@josephsjourneyyt: Have you ever noticed how one person can go run 20 kilometers without thinking twice about it, while someone else struggles to get off the couch? The difference is not motivation. It is perceived effort. Your brain is constantly estimating how hard a task will be before you even begin. And it is wired to do two things above everything else. Keep you safe. Conserve energy. This is why your brain often makes tasks feel bigger than they actually are. If it convinces you something is difficult, you are more likely to avoid it and save energy. Identity also plays a huge role. A marathon runner sees a long run and thinks, that’s easy. Someone who doesn’t see themselves that way thinks it is impossible. Same task. Completely different perceived effort. This applies to far more than running. Your ability to focus. Your ability to stop procrastinating. Your ability to execute on the things that matter. The key is learning how to lower the perceived effort and strengthen the identity of someone who follows through. Start small. For example, decide how many videos you are going to scroll after this one and actually stick to it. Each time you keep your word, you build evidence that you are someone who does what they say they will do. Over time that identity becomes automatic, and the things that used to feel difficult start feeling easy. If you want to learn more about the neuroscience behind focus, procrastination, and peak performance, follow along.
