@sothebys: See iconic works by Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, Jeff Koons and more in our special exhibition for Robert Mnuchin: Collector at Heart. The exhibition of highlights from the upcoming sale is on view through today at Mnuchin Gallery in New York. Here, Sotheby’s Lisa Dennison walks us through just some of the monumental works in the exhibition, which celebrates the life and legacy of Robert Mnuchin, one of New York’s most beloved dealers and collectors. After today, the exhibition will travel to our Sotheby’s Hong Kong from 20–29 March, Los Angeles from 8–10 April, and London 19–21 April. It’ll then return to our headquarters at the Breuer building in May as part of The New York Sales. Learn more at the link in our bio.

Talk about age, do you wanna guess how old Lisa Dennison is? Who she used to be and what she used to do?

I love art and I feel embarrassed to say it but sometimes I feel like gushing over certain abstract paintings is kinda like pretending the naked emperor is wearing incredible invisible clothes. I think a lot of the greatest artworks of the world are not in galleries and will never be auctioned for millions.

Art is currency. Names are traded so not always about the painting.

Abstract paintings are always something. If you think it’s lacking, that’s perfectly fine, and if you are filled with any other emotion, the painting has done its job. Art Is always subjective. Yes I’m sure a ton of us have said “what the heck I could do that” and that’s fine! Sometimes art isn’t about skill and the precision of the delivery of subject matter, but rather the end feeling the audience has accepted.

I thought she was going to at some point unveil the actual painting from behind the black splash of paint on white canvas veil 😳
