@golf_manual: Types of grass in golf! ⛳️🌱 Often overlooked, but can be very useful to know! 🏌️♂️ First is Bermuda Bermuda is thick, wiry grass with tough blades that grow aggressively in one direction. Because of this, the direction the grass grows affects how the ball rolls and comes off the club. You’ll see it mostly in hot climates like Southern US and the mediterranean. Second is Bentgrass Bentgrass is tightly packed with thin and delicate looking blades. It doesn’t influence the ball directionally like Bermuda so when firm and healthy, it rolls extremely pure. It stays bright green in cooler climates and is common in the UK and northern US. Third is Fescue Fescue has very fine, wispy blades and Is common on links courses It thrives in sandy soil and doesn’t need much water. Because it’s firm and doesn’t hold moisture, the ball bounces and runs. Tight lies expose poor contact, and around the greens it encourages low, running shots rather than high spin. Fourth is Zoysia Zoysia stands upright and dense like a thick carpet, with stiff and springy blades that look uniform and tidy The ball often sits perched on top of the grass which makes fairway contact easier, but those rigid blades can also be sticky around the greens and reduce rollout. You’ll find Zoysia in warm climates and transition zones. Next is Poa Annua Poa is slightly lighter in colour and has a more textured appearance than bentgrass. As the day goes on, it produces small seedheads that give the surface a distinctive look. It’s common on many historic courses and especially prevalent on the US West Coast. And finally Ryegrass. Ryegrass is lush, bright green and grows upright. The ball often sits up nicely, but because it retains moisture, conditions can feel softer with less rollout. It’s very common on UK fairways and is also widely used for overseeding in warmer climates. Let us know what type of grass you play on! Not sure as it’s currently under around 20” of snow! 😔 Seriously though, if I never had to play on Bermuda again it would be too soon. Love bent and fescue.
