Anthony Fine :
Calling VA disability a scam shows a profound misunderstanding of what it is.
Veterans are not “playing the system” when they file claims for injuries and conditions caused by service. They are documenting damage that happened in uniform. A bad back, wrecked knees, tinnitus from weapons and engines, migraines, anxiety, PTSD, sleep disruption, and chronic pain are all common examples of service connected conditions.
The VA rates each condition based on severity and functional impairment. That is why someone may have 20% for knees or back issues, 10% for tinnitus, and additional ratings for mental health or other physical injuries. Those ratings are then combined under VA rules.
And 100% VA disability does not mean the same thing as state disability or Social Security disability. VA compensation is about how much your service connected conditions impair your health and function. Civilian disability systems usually ask a different question, whether you are able to sustain substantial work at all.
So no, this is not a scam. It is compensation for damage tied to military service.
Veterans have to see multiple doctors, go through repeated evaluations, complete full body exams, and attend multiple appointments over several years. Their injuries also have to be documented and connected to their time in service
