Once they cut it out, they can ‘kill’ the nail bed so the nail will never become ingrown again. It looks totally normal too. My husband and son both did it decades ago and are still pain free.

shot glass, hydrogen peroxide, stick your toe in it for like 10-15 min and that should help soften the nail and give you some relief
