Calvin Murphy, Rick Mount & Elvin Hayes all scored nearly the same as Maravich in those years and on fewer shots. I’m not saying he wasn’t a great showman & skilled player, but sadly, he’s overrated. He could never get his team to the NCAA tournament playing in a weak conference. In the NBA, he was considered the worst defender & often had as many turnovers as assists. I consider him the greatest “what if,” in NBA history. He had the height & potential athleticism, but never worked on his body or conditioning. I blame his father, who was his high school & college coach, for never teaching Pete how to be part of a team & to get along with teammates.
