Worked in ophthalmology for 8 years. 5 in retina. Just came across your channel so sorry if you’ve addressed this. Did you have a spontaneous detachment and have surgery that led to complications leading to the cataract and glaucoma sx or do you have a medical condition that caused this?

You can’t have 2 cataract surgeries on one eye. You can have a YAG Cap for a PCO. FYI. But- I have more questions …

As someone who works for ophthalmologist(one also being a glaucoma specialist), this is so fascinating to me. Also, I’m so sorry you have to go through all of this. Our vision is so precious and I wish more people would realize that. Especially with glaucoma. It’s so silent.

this is crazy as a glaucoma tech, you’re probably the youngest person i’ve ever seen with an ahmed tube, we don’t get as many people so young who need such major glaucoma surgery. i can only image how high your pressure had to have been!!

I work in ophthalmology. what a journey! I appreciate you telling your story and raising awareness on the importance of eye exams and the sudden things that can happen and change even between exams. I say it daily.. I wish eye health was discussed more in health classes. 😉 so many things people don't know or understand

I too have had all those surgeries for congenital cataracts, retina detachments, sclera buckle, glaucoma lasering and a tab surgery. I am so sorry I allowed the glaucoma surgeries. I had to allow the cataract and retina surgeries. The glaucoma procedures only temporarily reduced my IOP but the scars and after effects are permanent. Every time my IOP goes up the first thing out of my Glaucoma specialist mouth is SURGERY. I now say NO, lets change up the drips. My pressure is lower now than it's been in 45 years.

I’m an oph tech and hate that you’ve gone through all of this but love that you’re educating people 💓. I see so many people who don’t need any treatment other than a single drop but won’t use it because it makes their eye red 😬. It is so hard to make people understand what could happen.

I work in an ophthalmology practice where I worked in retina for 1.5 years and have been with a cataract/glaucoma surgeon for over a year. Please hear me say- this was not your fault, and I am so proud of your attitude and ability to speak about your experience. If you were always nearsighted with retinal thinning, yearly follow up would’ve warned you of the risks for RD but may not have prevented it from happening! The snowball effect of a detachment is something they don’t unload on you at the beginning because not everyone develops pressure spikes/glaucoma.
