@aaron.the.rn: One thing I realized after choosing nursing as a career, working in the UK during the pandemic and moving to the US: No matter what happens in the world— a global pandemic, winter storms, earthquakes, floods, or whatever crisis comes next— we still show up to work. I remember when I first graduated as a nurse and had to work on Christmas. If you’re Filipino, you know how big Christmas is back home. Missing it felt heavy. I remember commuting to the hospital through flash floods in the Philippines just to make it to my shift. I remember reporting to work while everyone else stayed home during the pandemic. That’s the reality of being in healthcare. Nursing—and healthcare in general—is one of those professions where people depend on you to show up, even when you’re tired, even when conditions aren’t ideal, even when the world feels uncertain. That’s why we’re called essential workers. And while it’s not always easy, this profession has also given me something many people are still searching for: stability, purpose, and the chance to make a difference. Some days are hard.
