Mcas and histamine intolerance are two different things. Like saying gluten intolerance and celiac are the same. Mcas is immune disorder where mast cells release excessive inflammatory chemicals, including histamine, causing widespread and unpredictable symptoms across multiple body systems. Histamine intolerance, on the other hand, is mainly a digestive or metabolic issue where the body cannot properly break down histamine from foods, leading to symptoms usually triggered by eating high-histamine foods. While both conditions involve histamine and can cause similar reactions, MCAS is a broader, multi-system condition driven by abnormal immune cell activation diagnosed by allergist and doesn’t cure with antihistamines whereas histamine intolerance is primarily a problem with processing dietary histamine and does great with otc meds and diet changes.
