@kreid_01: Back in the day braids didn’t break hair off it actually grew hair, we used hot water to seal ends, not so much of the braid jam, mostly grease. We weren’t natural either so we didn’t need much product. It has to be the braid hair that’s breaking down the hair. 😵💫 I’m thinking washing the braiding hair before use , try human hair or hair that’s free of chemicals. Before your braid service get your real hair hair prepped before your braid service. Just a thought ! #braids #braidhair #blackhairtiktok #houstonhairstylists #BlackTikTok
Cause they are braiding hair with gel. Instead of grease

Y’all not moisturizing your hair. If your braids in for one month you should have washed your hair at least once. Spray water on it in the morning, light mist. Add leave in conditioner to the water or your hair. Especially the ends. Deal in moisture with oil or grease. Watering hair should be daily, leave in every 3/4 days, oil 2 times a week. Wash after two weeks. My hair grows from braids bc I take care of it in the braids. Trims 2/3 weeks before braids. Soak the braiding hair in apple cider vinegar and dawn dish soap. Take the chemicals out.

My childhood braider told me in the early 00s that synthetic braiding hair would essentially cut my hair because I have such a fine texture and to only use human hair if I insisted on having added hair.

It’s also that ring of dirt & edge control that forms at the root of the hair. Combing each one out takes so much hair with it

Trims, protein treatments/deep conditioners and MOISTURE are very important prior to getting braids. Moisture is also important while wearing braids .. Braiders have to stop braiding hair while it’s dry . Without these things your hair is bound to break off.

My hair has grown after giving up all styles except for my silk press. No braids, wigs, weaves and ponytails. Wash my hair weekly and keep my ends trimmed.

Once a week I was getting my hair done and my hair was so healthy then in the summer I would get braids. Once the summer was over I would start back getting my own hair done. My stylist would have to cut all the length that I retained. I decided to do a big cut and for 2026 I will not be wearing any braids.
