![After this US Weekly interview, literally everyone involved with the movie called BS on this story. Vulture’s Matthew Handler dug into the story and couldn’t get anyone to corroborate. Producer Stokely Chaffin summed it up: “I can answer lots and lots of questions about the complicated origin of the original, but I have no recollection of that ever happening. I suppose I could be wrong, but it’s not something that Jim seems like he would do when directing his first feature.” Later, she clarified this with Vulture’s Rachel Handler: “I know that there was a kid visiting that day who was at the monitor, and I remember us all standing around having a conversation about what I was going to do [in that scene]. It was not scripted that I was going to spin around in the street. “I thought it was this kid who threw this out because he loved horror movies,” Hewitt continued. “I was always supposed to scream, ‘What are you waiting for, huh?’ But it was specifically the spinning around in the street and the looking up [that the kid suggested].” At the end of the day, we can’t know how much the kid did or did not add to this film because there’s actually no record of any kid or any contest related to this R-Rated horror movie. So what happened? I doubt she made it up completely. Maybe one of the producers or a crew member’s kid?
