@shaynateresetaylor: I spent most of my life in cities. Moving fast, filling calendars, measuring days by what got done. Then four years ago I moved to the Italian countryside and something in me began to unlearn all of it. Italy has a way of quietly showing you that the whole thing, the rushing, the achieving, the constant doing, was never the point. The point was always this. The morning light. The unhurried cup. The day lived from the inside out. And what I have learned is that this looks different for everybody. It is not about copying someone else’s morning or feeling like you need to meditate and journal the way I do. It is about finding the small things that feel like yours and making them sacred. Turning the ordinary parts of your morning into rituals instead of rushing through them in fight or flight. That shift alone is where the whole day turns. Here are my 3 tips that anyone can embody no matter where you are in the world to start living like a true Italian. Tip 1: Start with the sun. Before you reach for your phone in the morning, find a window, a doorstep, a bench outside. Let light hit your skin first. Wherever you are in Italy, any city, any village, any stretch of coastline, you will find them there. On benches, on steps, on chairs pulled into doorways. Faces turned up. Unhurried. This is not laziness. This is wisdom. Tip 2: Sit with your morning beverage. In Italy, coffee is never to go. It is at a table, in a place, shared with someone or savored alone with the quiet. Whether that’s your espresso, your matcha, your tea, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you are sitting with it. Present with it. The morning is not something to get through. It is something to be inside of. Tip 3: Release the need to produce. Italians do not measure a good life by output. Joy is the metric. Presence is the practice. Success here looks like a morning that felt good to wake up into. You are allowed to let that be enough. You don’t need to be in Italy to live like this. You just have to decide the morning is worth protecting.
