@dayoffdiy: This crank bolt is not your normal bolt, it sandwiches the crank hub and the “grip disc” on the backside of it to the timing chain crank sprocket, which then mates to a “grip disc” on the front side of the oil pump crank sprocket, which pushes a “grip disc” on the back of the oil pump crank sprocket and mates that to the crankshaft. There are 3 components that this bolt sandwiches together to finally make contact to the crankshaft, and if those components spin when they’re not supposed to, it’s bye bye engine. #BMW Hope this helps!

Always replace stretch bolts. Even if the engine didn’t run. Can be torqued only once.

Did not replace the aluminum transmission bolts doing an 8hp swap. I think you might be able to infer why I’ll never ignore the “replace bolt” warning on *any* aluminum bolt and any important steel bolt.

Yes. They’re stretch bolts. One time use only.

BMW stretched bolts, aluminium bolts, waterpump, hydraulic lifters, nothing more expensive than a BMW maintenance
