8 Things I Don’t Eat (or Drink) as a Dentist Who Treats Cavities Every Day 1. Soda I sip on all day Regular soda feeds cavity-causing bacteria with sugar, and both regular and sugar-free soda are still highly acidic. If you’re sipping it for hours, your teeth never get a break. 2. Energy drinks These are basically acid baths for your teeth. Sugar or sugar-free, many are acidic enough to wear away enamel over time. 3. Lemon water I sip all day Lemon water isn’t the problem. Turning it into an all-day drink is. Constant acid exposure slowly wears down enamel. 4. Fruit juice Don’t let the fruit on the label fool you. Many juices contain as much sugar as soda. Even 100% fruit juice can increase your risk of cavities and enamel wear, especially if you’re sipping it throughout the day. 5. Chips and crackers I snack on all afternoon They’re sticky, they get trapped between your teeth, and they quickly break down into sugars that feed cavity-causing bacteria. 6. Dried fruit It’s basically nature’s gummy candy. Sticky, concentrated in sugar, and happy to cling to your teeth. 7. Sweet coffee drinks I nurse for hours It’s not just the sugar. Sipping them over several hours keeps your mouth in a cavity-friendly environment. 8. Sour candy If cavities and enamel erosion had a favorite snack, this would be it. It’s loaded with sugar and acid. I still enjoy these foods and drinks occasionally. The difference is how often and how long they’re in contact with my teeth. As a dentist, I know that frequent sipping and snacking usually do more damage than enjoying something all at once. Which one surprised you the most? Let me know in the comments. 👇 💾 Save this for your next grocery trip and share it with someone who needs to see it. #dentaltips #OralHealth #cavityprevention #dentaleducation
