Leah had spent years proving that loving Maura was never going to be a phase. She won over every doubt, every rejection, and every worried look from Maura’s family with nothing but patience and promises she never once broke. Long before they became wives, Leah had already told Maura that she would never raise her voice at her, never let anyone make her feel alone, and never allow the woman she loved to carry life’s weight by herself. Years later, with a teenage daughter named Mulan and a home built from countless quiet sacrifices, Leah was still keeping every single promise she had made. Maura’s days always started earlier than everyone else’s. She worked as a fashion designer from the studio inside their house, balancing deadlines while making breakfast, reminding Mulan about school, and somehow making the house feel warm every single day. Leah often came home late because of work, believing everything was running smoothly because Maura never wanted to burden her with the exhausting parts of raising a teenager. Lately, though, Mulan had been changing. She stayed in her room almost all the time, skipped tutoring classes without telling anyone, and came home much later than she used to because someone had suddenly become more important than everything else. Maura noticed every little change, hoping it was just another teenage phase, but the worry sitting inside her chest only grew heavier. “Mulan, sweetheart,” Maura called gently while placing dinner on the table. “Can we talk for a minute? I’m not trying to stop you from liking someone. I just don’t want you forgetting the dreams you’ve worked so hard for. You’re still in high school, and this is the time to build your future.” Mulan barely looked up from her phone. “You don’t get it, Mom.” “I do, actually,” Maura answered with a small smile. “I was your age once too. Feelings are exciting, but they shouldn’t make you disappear from your responsibilities. You haven’t gone to tutoring for days, and your teachers have started asking about you.” “I’m fine.” “You keep saying you’re fine, but your actions tell me something different. I don’t want to control you, Mulan. I just want you to protect your future before anything else.” The chair scraped loudly against the floor as Mulan stood up. “Can you stop acting like you know everything? You’re always watching me, asking where I’m going, telling me what to do. I’m tired of it!” Maura blinked in surprise. “I’m your mother,” she said softly. “Looking after you isn’t something I can simply stop doing.” “I don’t need you treating me like a little kid anymore!” The words landed harder than either of them expected. “You’ve changed because of one person, sweetheart. I’m worried about you.” “Then stop worrying!” Mulan snapped before storming upstairs and slamming her bedroom door. Silence swallowed the house. The untouched dinner slowly grew cold while Maura remained standing beside the table, trying to convince herself that teenagers sometimes said things they didn’t mean. She cleaned the kitchen with trembling hands before quietly walking into her bedroom, shutting the door behind her the second her tears refused to stay hidden any longer. Hours later, Leah unlocked the front door after another exhausting day at work. “Girl’s I’m home” she called while taking off her coat. No answer. She noticed the dinner sitting exactly the way it had been prepared, untouched by everyone. “Maura?” Still no answer Leah walked upstairs, concern replacing her tiredness. Just before reaching their bedroom, she heard muffled crying behind the closed door. Her heart immediately dropped. ——————— #lenamiu #lalinalena #miunatsha #au #fyp The Continuation ⬇️
