@middayreviews: Ad Astra came out the same year as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Pitt’s performances couldn’t be more different.

Ad Astra is a father-son story about a son’s journey into the heart of darkness that reveals the cost of emotional isolation and the choice to live differently.

I saw it. It was too slow in pacing.

No one is talking about the single biggest flaw that undermines the entire movie. They send Brad Pitt to Mars for a single purpose—to speak into a microphone. Apparently we can build moon bases and travel to Mars, but not transmit audio from Earth to Mars.

It's a long and dry character study. Doesn't hold up as great sci fi

What impacted me the most of this movie is the feeling it gives you as he’s getting further away from earth and closer to mars. Idk how to explain it but they did an amazing job of giving you that feeling of distance and how far away he’s going and how less humans are around as he’s getting to mars.

It sucks. All drama comes from exterior events that have nothing to do with the main conflict - his relationship with his dad. Which is only told through soap opera quality exposition.

WarpHound :
This movie was terrible sci-fi, and crappy storytelling. Brad Pitt did an amazing job, but Tommy Lee Jones was wasted on this film. The giant Antenna is stupid. If you're going to build a mega structure like that, then make a space elevator. There's all this talk about SETI (the reason for the antenna) but that's it, nothing more. The moon sequence is ridiculous, just get on a shuttle and fly. What kind of "power surges" they never explain it, and the writer's understanding of anti-matter is ridiculous.
