Yup. A gay therapist will not need a glossary to understand the client before starting the work. Also, most of the therapy training doesn’t really cover LGBTQ matters. Lastly, many therapists are homophobic.

I'm a straight male therapist.i worked with a gay client who wanted to face his fears of straight men. and he was my most improved client. also, the list of twenty things you listed at the start? I knew most of them, including the Eagle, I've never been to New York and I love in Scotland 😄

I love having a gay male therapist! Not everything we talk about is about being gay or relates to being gay, but it’s comforting to know I can be myself, not worry about code switching, etc

I’m a gay man and I’ve worked with a straight male therapist and currently working with a gay male therapist and both have taught me so much in different ways. So I always just say find someone who works for you. But I really do enjoy working with someone who understands a lot of gay issues already on a deeper level instead of spending time trying to articulate it.

My therapist for 2 years was gay and Puerto Rican, and he helped me sooo much! I think the way he understood my identity makes it much easier. We have ran into each other irl but he said he won’t acknowledge me until I do first and that kept a good boundary between us outside of professional settings.
