Losing your hair can be such a heart wrenching aspect of this disease. You think you’ll have a lot more time with it than you actually do. Mine started falling out within a few days, by a week my hairbrush was full, by 2 weeks it was coming out in clumps, by 3 weeks I couldn’t even touch it without clumps coming out, leaving a trail of long black hairs behind me everywhere I want. Feeling so embarrassed that it was always covering my clothes with the fallout. Feeling my heart break with every stroke of that hair brush. People will tell you “oh it’s just hair, it’ll grow back” or try their hardest to convince you that you still look beautiful- and as much as you thank them for the honest effort to be kind, it’s impossible to believe them. You feel a loss of femininity, and suddenly you can no longer look in the mirror without this disease staring back at you with no escape anymore. I had SO much hair before I lost it. It was so thick, I thought I’d probably have months before the hair loss would become blatantly visible. I ended up having it shaved after my third round because I couldn’t handle the gut punch of looking at myself in the mirror anymore or seeing my hair brush at the end of every day, or feel the embarrassment of the trail it left behind. And as if that didn’t feel shitty enough, after shaving, my hair started growing in WHITE. I was expecting a shade or two darker or lighter but white was not on the bingo card. I’m not writing this with the intention of any forced positivity or encouragement. This part sucks. It all sucks. I’ve been blessed to have a good support system in friends and family- and just very recently getting on this app, I’ve been so pleasantly surprised at the amount of support I’ve found in the cancer community on here. For anyone who has gotten this far reading- please feel free to reach out to me whenever if you ever want to talk 🖤 #cancer #cancerfighter #ewingsarcoma #bonecancer #hairloss
