if you say something nice in the hope of recieving compliments , then you were never saying someting truly nice to begin with. when i share a compliment, i just do. i ain't waiting anything in return.

Lowkey, that would be amazing. Everytime I go in public I receive compliments. And I mean everytime. It's nice but gets annoying when I'm tryna walk with someone and I get stopped to be complimented. Like sometimes I just wanna be left alone 💔

Really??? I mean, im german and I have complimented a lot of strangers saying that "I love their hair/outfit/vibe etc." and never once have I had a reaction like that. Could just be my area tho

i feel like the idea americans only compliment for the other person to say something nice back is a misconception. i never expect a compliment back, i just like to compliment others to make their day a little brighter

Came back to the US after living in the UK for two years. I got into an Uber and the Uber driver wouldn’t stop talking and tell me his life story. The next day I grabbed delivery and the delivery driver stated “ Oh my gosh your burrito looks so good. It smelled so good. I also really like your outfit ” I get so annoyed by American small talk sometimes.
