An Irish wake is probably one of the best nights craic you will ever have with tasty sandwiches.

In my experience as an Irish person; it’s mostly just sandwiches in the kitchen and tea and coffee, biscuits and sweet treats and respect to the person in prayer before the funeral director takes them to their resting place. After usually, drinking is optional. I wouldn’t do so at the home.

Tea has been replaced the alcohol.

A wake here in Ireland typically lasts 2-3 days not just 1 night.Everyone gets food, tea, alcohol if ya want, sometimes there’s a sing-song and stories told.

this is our tradition and I personally think it's a great way to process your grief and say goodbye , plus I find funeral homes just so weird and so un personal

when my 17yr old brother died he was laid out in the sitting room. my granny 91 at the time with dementia said oh he's a lovely handsome boy I'm glad I'm at his christening 🤣🤣 it sure broke the tension. the house was packed with people 24/7 for 3 days until he was laid to rest

It was common place in Appalachia in the 60s. My grandmother passed we received people for 4 days before her funeral. I was 10 and was grateful for the time to say goodbye. I loved her so. It was the norm, nothing weird. They had moonshine, however.
