@her_soft___era: 1️⃣ I heard this at a business dinner in Tokyo — and it hit me like a punch. I asked, “Why? Isn’t being on time… good?” He replied calmly: “We don’t fire the late ones. We fire the ones who arrive exactly at the start.” The table went silent. ⸻ 2️⃣ In my world, arriving right on time meant you were responsible. In his — it meant you were cutting it close. “If you arrive at 9:00 sharp,” he said, “it means you planned for everything to go perfectly.” No delays. No mistakes. No margin. And that’s the real problem. ⸻ 3️⃣ He looked at me and added: “People who leave no buffer… are people you can’t trust with responsibility.” That one sentence changed how I see punctuality forever. Because showing up “on time” often just means: you were one small problem away from being late. ⸻ 4️⃣ I started noticing something after that. The most successful people don’t arrive on time. They arrive early. Not to impress — but to prepare. They settle in. Read the room. Start conversations before everyone else even walks in. By the time things begin — they’re already ahead. ⸻ 5️⃣ Now I see it differently: “On time” is the minimum. Early is where advantage begins. Because success — in work, money, and life — comes from margin. Not last-minute effort. But built-in space for reality. ⸻ Closing So when someone says, “But I was on time,” I hear: “I did the minimum.” And that mindset has a ceiling. Japan understood this long ago: you don’t win by reacting — you win by arriving before the game even starts.

propaganda i will not fall. the company can replace you anytime if you get sick, they also won't help you with the bills. your family and yourself needs you more. the company you working is not your family and will not see you as one because they just doing pure business and want to earn money.

I arrived on time. Prepare, execute and deliver results on time. 9 years in leadership role. Company don't pay you extra hours to be early. I respect my time. Work Life Balance.

Yeah no, if a company is paying from the moment I clock in early, then sure, I wouldn’t mind. But if it’s a strict 9–5 with fixed pay, that doesn’t work for everyone.
I’ve spent 9 years in corporate across 3 different countries, and one thing I’ve learned is that people have different brains and focus patterns. Some do their best work after 10am, some early in the morning, and others at night.
Companies usually get better results when they create an environment that lets employees work when they’re most productive instead of expecting everyone to be the same. Life isn’t just about work, and people perform better when they actually enjoy what they do, not when they’re forced into a rigid system like robots.
And just to be clear, I’m talking about people who genuinely work hard, not those trying to avoid doing their job.

arrive 10-15 minutes earlier so you can have time to prepare yourself and the things you need. it is not being capitalist, it is called self and time management.

my work requires us to arrive 15 minutes early because early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable. yet does not let us out on exactly on time. have to stay at least another 30 mins after duty to do "side duties" so basically that's 45 minutes of free labour

It is a social experiment reading this will make you think going to work before the time is better, but let me tell you we don't come to earth just to go to work.

Oh my! How profound! Who doesn’t show up a few minutes early for work to get ready and be where you’re supposed to be at the time you start? Is this a joke

this is a very old mindset
I have managed for many years and honestly I don't have time for someone showing up early either you are on the floor to work and start working or you should wait out of the way we have work to do

I worked on a Japanese company before, and I actually developed my punctuality there. My work starts at 8:30am and ends at 5:30pm. 8:30:00 is really considered late, so we should login by 8:29:59 to avoid getting marked late. As for logging out, we should log out at 5:31pm. Logging out at exact 5:30pm equates to undertime hehe
