I have a highly skilled rec player. has absolutely outgrown it for years now. BUT between money and time. we cant do anything more.... thankfully tho he still loves it.

I am a Coach of our middle school rec and it isn’t only one reason why they play rec. Yes we have fun while grinding, but non of my kids do what you just said about how to recognize rec v club. The price sacrifice that families have to make to play club and travel sometimes isn’t achievable. I have multiple club players on my team that unfortunately had to make the decision to go rec because of financial reasons. I coach them and give them everything I would to a club team!

We hated the rec in our area. Went club last fall and now we are training to go travel next year. It’s a vast difference between rec and club, but I also noticed some parents are putting their kids in club, but are working at a rec level and don’t practice with their children. I feel like if you want to play club, you should also be taking the time to practice outside of group practices. We are at the point we are doing multiple camps and considering private lessons.

I have a rec son who should be club, but can't afford the cost or have time to travel. rec is definitely half "just fun" families, and half competitive.

He started in Rec at 5 years old .. I knew by the time he was 7-8 he needs to go to Club !! Best thing I did for him⚽️🇫🇷⚽️

No- it’s lost on the club that is offering these kids spots on teams they shouldn’t be on. Competitive youth soccer has become a money grab.

I didn’t realize the vast difference between the two and that’s on me lol we signed up for rec soccer, never done anything like that before, complete joke, kids running around everywhere, no one listening. Participation trophies for everyone. My son was like mom lets never do that again 😂 found a club doing a camp, been with them for 5yrs now.

My 9 year old wants me to video every soccer game, so he can talk through each play and review the questionable calls on the way home. Club or rec was never my choice to make.

comp just wants your money. comp should only have 2 top teams but they have 4 sometimes 5 and those bottom 3 teams should be in rec.

I think it depends on your geographical area- but at least it seems in my area. Parents are using Rec sports for socialization and not actually sports. Which of course frustrates the children who are trying to learn and trying to win, and they feel like they’re the only kid putting an effort. My oldest moved to travel soccer strictly because she almost wanted to quit at nine feeling like she was one of two or three kids that cared about anything. Softball is a similar issue- when my child can’t throw to first because the first baseman is playing in the dirt, and yet her mom says this is her third season and they are just here for socialization…. My girlie was sooo frustrated.

Eh, I wouldn't necessarily split it this way due to our personal experience ... our county / city doesn't run a rec soccer program. The rec program is ran by our local club. Still follows the basic rules of traditional, county or city ran rec programs. We have both rec and competitive sides at our club.

My daughter plays because she has love and passion for the game, she gives 110 no matter if it’s Rec( which she does to “get touches on the ball”) and travel for more serious play!

My daughter played rec her first year and she dominated on the field with 0 experience. We put her in competitive this year and she has improved so much. She takes it serious and still trains on her off days!! She's 7. The price is worth it for those who are working for it and she has so much fun doing it
