If it’s solid plastic and not rubber/silicone, it can actually damage the nerves in the nose as they dig their nose into the plastic

You can also just soak the lick mat for a bit (even like 30sec with warm water and soap) then use a brush to scrub it off. Definitely can become damaging to the teeth, gums or nose nerves if the pet is chewing/digging into the plastic/rubber ridges.
