@instituteofhumananatomy: Here's exactly how the ACL tears — and what surgeons use to rebuild it. 🦵 The ACL has three main jobs: preventing the tibia from sliding too far forward, stopping internal rotation of the lower leg, and limiting hyperextension. Push the knee too far in any one of those directions and the ligament snaps. And here's what surprises most people — 70% of ACL tears are non-contact injuries. A bad landing from a jump or a plant-and-twist is all it takes. When surgery is needed, the two most common reconstruction options are a hamstring graft — specifically the semitendinosus tendon, which is so long it gets folded back on itself multiple times to create a new ACL that's actually stronger than the original — or a patellar tendon graft. And yes, cadaver ligaments are also used. Part 3 covers those options in detail plus how to reduce your risk. Could you explain how hypermobility affects the standard measurements / movements of the ACL please? I have HMS & my ‘knees’ pop in & out (sublax) a lot so have a vested interest
