The day that inspired me to change everything. It wasn’t just about not being able to enjoy a day at Disneyland… it was about not being able to fully experience that day with my nephew. Being an aunt has always been one of the greatest joys in my life. And that was the day I realized I couldn’t be the kind of aunt I wanted to be, because I couldn’t be a present one. I didn’t have the energy, endurance, or health to fully show up for Lincoln. He got a limited version of me… so I could continue living a life that felt familiar. And that wasn’t okay with me. I didn’t want a life where a day at a theme park felt miserable simply because existing in my body was a burden to me. I wanted to feel free. Free to do what I wanted… without questioning if my body could handle it. I wanted to choose what my life looked like, instead of letting my body and my lack of health choose it for me. I didn’t want to just exist. I wanted to live. I wanted to become the version of me I dreamed about, rather than just continue to dream about her. And over the past four years, everything has changed. Not overnight. Not perfectly. But intentionally. I’ve watched what once felt impossible become part of my everyday life. And not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, relationally and spiritually too. I’m living a life I never thought would be mine, not because I couldn’t have it, but because I couldn’t see myself in it yet.
