@zoecollin.s: Maybe I’m emotionally fatigued and going overseas for a year might be all I need but I’ve never seen myself being a nurse 🧐 #travelnurse #travelnursingaustralia #nurslife #registerednurse
I hated the training only put up with studying to be a nurse so I could go into cosmetic medicine! BUT tripped and fell into theatre nursing and LOVE it! You wouldn’t catch me dead doing any other nursing job tbh especially shift/ward nursing! this is my niche and it’s very specialised, quite different from any other nursing! So fun!

Work in the nicu 🥺 genuinely adore my job. I think it’s harder to burn out cos the patients are so small it’s a lot less strenuous with manual handling etc. also we cluster so much care so will try and leave them alone as much as possible

Get into clinical trials for oncology if you can. The patients will not abuse you. They are on their last chance in life and extremely grateful and have gratitude for all the staff and efforts. It’s clinic hours. Some private practices will pay well in comparison to public services too. It’s an option to look into if you’re struggling

I’d wanted to be a nurse since I was 11, as soon as I started studying and got treated like shit by other students and teachers, I was like it’s ok coz I’ll be a nurse and it’ll be worth it! I’m a year and a half in, I’m exhausted, burnt out emotionally and physically and drained. I can’t believe something I’ve longed for my whole life has left me like this. It breaks my heart and I feel so let down.

As a nurse that loves being a nurse, I completely sympathise with nurses that hate it. It’s horribly compensated for what we do and put up with. Your feelings are so valid. Look into cosmetic nursing, a lot of my friends went into it. Wayyy better compensated and life style is much better and not dealing with a lot of the shitty things regular nursing deals with.

my love I felt the same way as you a couple of years ago!! I hated ward nursing/adult nursing. The beauty of nursing is there is sooo many different areas you can try out. I went into labour and delivery nursing and have never looked back. I love it so much. Honestly hated the work in Aus cause I had to do adult nursing as I’m not a midwife and there arent L&D nurses in Aus so I get you. Ward/adult nursing is mentally and physically DRAINING. I would try and go for your midwifery or try something really specialized like NICU or theatre! I felt so much less burnt out when I switched areas and I’m never abused by patients anymore. I know you’ll figure it out 🫶🏻

Just know you are totally not alone in this! I’m in the exact same boat as you, just trying to figure out my next move. I used to feel so guilty about the years I spent studying nursing just to “waste a degree”, but thinking about being a nurse for the rest of my life fills me with dread! Keen to see what your next move is xx

I think it’s different when it’s a second career. After 20 years in an office I enjoy the variety and learning with nursing and not being stuck at a desk.

All my older nursing colleagues have said that if nursing was what it is today back when they started they never would have stayed in the industry for 30 years! I’m a CN so earn good money (not enough still) and I hate my job lol I want my own business but idk what to do!! 🤣

I’m in the same situation! I’m looking for roles that are clinical lead/advisor type roles at disability/home care organisations etc. I’m up to final stage interviews for one role and my clinical knowledge from nursing has really carried!!

Maybe you just haven’t found the right type of nursing? Or maybe nursing just isn’t for you and that’s totally okay! So many people leave nursing all the time. I think Covid had a MASSIVE impact for all healthcare workers. I loved nursing throughout my grad year and the few years that followed. Then Covid hit, we were all under the pump, I was running a med/surg/covid overflow ward at 22years old when I was NOT experienced enough. I got burnt out. I wanted to quit. And I spent every year getting a new job in nursing. Even got to the point where I ALMOST left completely to persue my aerials career last year but found travel nursing and the lifestyle and reconnecting in rural settings with people in actual need- (vs being abused in metro for not getting someone a blanket lol) definitely reignited my love for nursing. But not everyone’s journey is like that! Maybe it’s just not for you and that’s SO okay! Find something you’re passionate about and go for it! Fashion maybe? 🥹😍
