@janklabs: It’s that time of year where all the potholes pop up in the late winter and early spring so I’m going around filling the potholes with some gravel. This is our private road that all the neighbors around here use and it’s not maintained by the town so it’s up to us to maintain it. I figure I’m saving everyone a fair amount of money by just filling up the potholes with some gravel I had. ##offgrid##potholes##DIY

You need a power rake/harley rake on a skid steer to redo the driveway. It will look like new and compact level again.

"But who will maintain the roads without the government?" The government doesn't maintain it as is

They’re going to get used to you doing it yourself and when the time comes for everyone to chip in they’re not going to.

Unfortunately you’ll never be able to get rid of the potholes like this. It’s basically a bowl of compressed rock and you’ll need to fully dig it out or scrape it out with a tractor or skidy.

You need it graded. The water should drain off the road.

Spend the money once and have a good grader re-grade the road built up, with a crown on the driveway so water runs off to the sides. Will never have to do that again

literally renting a loader would probably give longer lasting results. you're just dumping stone in the holes caused by water infiltration.

There's probably an indigenous plant (so requires little-to-no care once established) you can plant along the sides of the road to help with erosion issues?

Everyone recommending equipment that will do a fantastic job, but not everyone has access to those without a high expense. I have seen a 4ft x 4ft drag harrow behind a garden tractor do a nice “freshen up” job on a worn out driveway. All your gravel is still there, it hasn’t evaporated.

rent a power rake, it'll dig up the old gravel that underground and still just fine. make sure to rinse the dirt or just let's the rain do it.

Every couple of years or so you should rent a grader and regrade the road and then roll it if necessary.
